Taking Atheism to Heart
Hard to uphold.
C S Lewis was a notable intellectual, professor at Oxford and Cambridge, and an atheist until the age of 32 when he had a complete change of mind – this is possible for anyone, no matter how long they or you have held that position.
Becoming an atheist is a tough decision requiring a big step of faith. Why? Because it is a hard position to uphold with little credible defence as you will see in the video.

Just because you have made a decision once, it doesn’t mean it’s the right one or that it can’t be changed at this later point. Science develops along these lines and changes in the light of new evidence. Before the 6th Century, it was held that the earth was flat but Pythagoras changed all that. Nicholas Copernicus proved in the 1500s that the sun is the centre of the universe rather than the earth as had been held formerly. Even Einstein’s 1917 theory of a Static Universe was overturned when Hubble demonstrated that it is constantly expanding.
Clive Staples Lewis rejected the Christianity he’d been taught as a child, referring to it as ‘an illness of long-standing’. He became a full blown ‘evangelical atheist’, described by his friends as a ‘foul mouthed and riotously amusing atheist’. His journey to Christian faith began through talking to his friend J R R Tolkein and took 15 years. He said this: ‘A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading’.
It was Edward Young who said, ‘By night an atheist half believes’! Nicky Gumbel was a barrister with a fine probing legal mind and a staunch atheist who set out to disprove the existence of God but as he read the entire Bible he became convinced of God’s existence! Both Gumbel and Lewis would encourage you to persevere through this Gateway – you owe it to yourself. It may surprise you to hear that God loves atheists!
Thanks for the comment Phil. I agree that religion is dead and it is a tyrant. The existence of planet earth and all that is both on and above it, including you, are clear indications of design. The logical conclusion is therefore that there is a designer. How ridiculous you would think it if random parts of metal came together by themselves and made a watch capable of marking the passing of time. Feel free to be in touch with your thoughts on that.
Nobody has ever provided any falsifiable evidence to support the existence claim of any god, let alone the God of the Bible. The Bible has no more credibility than the Vedas or the Kojiki.
You could equally be talking about Quetzalcoatl, Vishnu, Zeus or the Sky Serpent.
I delight in being free from the tyranny of religion.
