Breaking Free from Slavery to Sin: Like An Archer Missing The Mark Of Perfection
The Bible clearly teaches us that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). To sin is to be like an archer missing the mark of perfection, so no surprise then that we all do it. The good news is that through Jesus Christ, we are offered liberation from this bondage. How? In John 8:36, Jesus declares, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” This profound promise reminds us that true freedom comes from Him. When we accept His sacrifice, we are no longer slaves to sin but are made new creations in Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, the Apostle Paul writes: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Choice in Resisting Sin: Give Joy To God
To be a new creation is what many refer to as being ‘born again’. It is to have a clean slate and a new identity as a ‘child of God’, able now to choose to resist sin and in doing so to give joy to God Who sees all. Someone who is not ‘born again’ is unable to resist sin.
